This was so lovely to read! I also adopted 90s mode for this summer while I'm on break from teaching. I put my phone in a box in a cabinet in the living room every evening (before enjoying a tv show so I'm not scrolling), and I don't retrieve it until after I'm done my creative work in the morning, including working on my second novel. I bought a dvd player from a neighbor and get dvds from the public library. I've been reading a ton and going swimming. I want to try your radio idea. π
Ohhh I'm so glad you commented Maureen, this is inspiring me even more. I think I need an official "box" for my phone, and I love the idea of doing my creative work first before touching it in the morning. Being able to have a clear head for that work would be profound. And the DVD player! Genius!
βJust because I k ow something doesnβt fix itβ exaclty!!!!!! Omg this is my mother !!!!!!Iβve been trying to explain this to my 24/7 news cycle addicted mother who is forever clutching her pearls literally and yelling the latest world distaster. Iβve over and over explained I donβt follow news generally ans and only take on what I can change or support directly. She never let up I now leave any room sheβs in listening reading or shouting about latest update. She is informed yet remains ignorant and isnβt helping anyone with her βknowledgeβ
Thank you! So glad you know both sides, itβs sometimes so ingrained as a habit that itβs hard to see how destructive it can get because itβs our default habit. We can be informed without the anxiety and doom!
I donβt fully know why I started to cry halfway through this. I miss living out of my head and my phone and feeling like I have to know and be and do and care for everything. Boundaries are unknown to me - everyone can have all of me all of the time which results in them often either getting the polished βplease like me cause Iβm trying to hold it togetherβ me or the not-so-great parts of me because Iβm so burned out and tired I feel like Eeyore. These ideas are great. They seem like reclamation. I think Iβll like myself more with them in place. Iβll know my heart and mind better. Iβll find time for them then x
Thank you so much for sharing Elodie, and for being here! That is so beautifully said, I mean, "to know your heart and mind better" is everything. It's something so many people are afraid of!
For radio over Netflix, I suggest the SoCal Sound app. You can listen anywhere, no commercials, no news - and they play lots of 90s music to set the tone π
Here for 90s mode, letβs have the best summer ever π
